The buses mentioned, with registration number SBS2988M and
SBS2989K, are Volvo B10BLE-CNG's. "10" for 9.6-litre (about 10l),
245-bhp turbo-chharged GH10B245 engine, "B" for back-mounted, "LE"
for low entry. The mounting of the engine at the rear (parellel to
the length) permits low entry at the front half of the bus. The
bodywork is by Volgren, known as Cr222L. Gearbox is the famous
4-speed ZF 4HP500 found in a lot of our buses.
The bus was commissioned way back in 2002 and after a brief stint
on now-defunct Jurong Island Services 711, 712 & 713, they have
ever since settled down on Service 105.
SBS Transit has also acquired 10 more of these B10BLE-CNG buses in
2003 but they were never registered for use on public roads.
Instead, they have been laid up at Bukit Batok and Soon Lee Depots
with full SBST livery (paint). Their registrations (fixed, no road
tax disc): SBS2990E (Bt Batok), SBS2991C (Bt Batok), SBS2992A (Bt
Batok?), SBS2993Y, SBS2994U, SBS2995S, SBS2996P (Bt Batok),
SBS2997L, SBS2998J and SBS2999G.
